All Things Must End

Dear Friends/Customers:

After a great deal of thought, I have reluctantly have reached the decision to close Montage Worldwide.  The present plan is to close in late summer or early fall.  Meanwhile, we still have a lot of books and magazines to sell, so please continue to check in as we lower prices on our remaining inventory.

It’s a difficult and sad decision, as this has been a tremendous amount of fun, and a new adventure.   Montage has been a wonderful experience for me.  I have been able to “meet”, know and enjoy model railroaders all over the world.   It has been a pleasant way for me to gain increased exposure to the world of quality and knowledgeable publications about prototype and model railroads, current and past, and to learn from many of you.  There is a world of knowledge which you have generously shared with me.

Thanks to all of you who have been so loyal and so kind to us at Montage Worldwide the last 15+ years.  You have embraced and welcomed the service that we perceived was needed.  I am proud of the success we achieved most of the time.  Sometimes we disappointed.  For any disappointment, we apologize.  I have deeply appreciated the words of gratitude so many of you have expressed for the service we have tried to provide.  Likewise, I am extremely grateful to you for your many kindnesses and your support.  I feel we are letting down those of you who have come to rely on Montage for the books and magazines you need to research your projects, or for your railroad reading pleasure.  Sources for these materials are disappearing at an alarming rate.  I’m reluctant to add to the exodus.

We aren’t saying goodbye; we’re saying thank you.

All my best wishes to you,

Cleo Simmonds

P. S.  During the liquidation sale our same guarantee of satisfaction will be in effect.  The only change in policy is the need to require a $5.00 minimum on merchandise orders, not including shipping, due to order processing costs.  It will be necessary to refuse and return orders for lesser amounts.

It is very likely that we'll still have quite a few books and magazines left when we close our doors and take down our web site.   Please make a note of this email address:, and check with me for any items you may need after this web site closes.

We don't send out much mail. No regular newsletter; no flashy sale emails. But if you'd like to hear from us from time to time when we do have something to say, or if you just like to get emails, submit your email address. We'll drop a note once in a while.

Thanks. We'll stay in touch - you do the same.

About Shipping Charges:

With few exceptions, we ship with U. S. Postal Service.

However, because of the shape and dimensions of  items vary, we can’t calculate in advance an exact shipping charge. The total seen at checkout time is the MAXIMUM you will be charged.  It may be adjusted downward if we find we can ship in a way that provides the same level of service at a lower rate.  If the amount you have paid is less than the amount needed to ship by the best method, we pay the difference.  You will not pay any more than what you were charged at checkout.  The Regional Priority Flat Rate service of the USPS is what we use for most domestic addresses.  Often we will not be able to select the best shipping method until the order is pulled from inventory, weighed, and an appropriate box size is chosen.  The mix of items in the order can affect the choice of shipping method, as well.  In some cases the dimensions of the package will affect the rate.

The amount charged on your order is the most you will be charged.  We always will try to select the lowest cost and best shipment method for your order.  If we are able to ship for a lower cost than you were charged, we will refund any overpayment that amounts  to more than $1.00.

When we get a discounted commercial rate, the savings are passed on to you.  We do not try to make money on shipping or handling fees.  We sell books and magazines- not postage.

About International Shipping Charges:

We are a bit limited in the choice of international shipping methods.  Occasionally we find that we can use International Flat Rate Priority Mail to lower your shipping and handling costs..  When that is possible, the same policy is followed as in domestic shipping.  If the package can be shipped for a lower amount than was charged at checkout, any amount of US$1.00 or more will be refunded to your credit card or PayPal account.  As with domestic sales, the amount you are charged on checkout is the most you will pay.  We adjust charges down, but not up.
